0 Come Travel With Me

I just had a blast working on this new mini book class!!!! When I saw the Amy Tangerine debut line at the American Crafts booth at CHA I knew I had to have it!! It was so cute and fun yet had a vintage/thrift store/flea market flair to it.  The sewing machine/travel motif was the icing on top!

I ordered the mini books from this line to make a kit with and you know I never do that kind of thing-- I am all about books from scratch -- but this mini was too cute to pass up. Well, apparently alot of other people thought so too and it is back ordered for months. I was able to snag one sample....more about that later...but I could not make a sample for books we'd not receive in time, you know?! I could not wait any longer to make my sample so I made a JP version of the mini book and set to decorating.

I love this book and it has tons of pages for journaling, photos, and just for fun. I hope you will join me for this fab class--we are going to have a blast!!

6 Simple + Cute + Practical...Can It Be?!

Yes it can be!! I created this fun hair clip organizer for the Clear Scraps CHA Summer booth. It's super easy to make and very practical. Plus it can hold ALOT of hair clips!

I used the Clear Scraps XL Scallops Clear Shape as the base of the holder. I inked the edges with black ink and then wrapped the shape with black ribbon to create a place for the clips to clip onto. I added a wire hanger and several bows to decorate the wire.

For the focal point on the lower right side of the holder I added feathers, bows, stick pins and baubles. I covered the back of the Dress Forms Embellishments by Clear Scraps with Anna Griffin paper and then cut it out with a craft knife, inking the edges with black ink. I added that the grouping of embellishments and added a Prima pearl flourish on top to bring if all together. Now it's ready to hang and store clips!

Supplies:

  • Dress Forms Embellishments by Clear Scraps
  • Paper - Anna Griffin
  • Bling - Prima, Pink Paislee
  • Pearl Paint - Viva
  • Ink - Clearsnap
  • Ribbon, Tulle, Flower - hydrangeahippo.etsy.com
  • Wire - Darice

2 Sweet Thanks with a Surprise Inside

What's better on a hot summer day than an ice cream cone? I made this pocket card using the Scor-Pal and Smooch Accent Ink. Here's how:

Cut a piece of 8.5" x 11" Cardstock down to 5.5" x 8.5". Using the Scor-Buddy, score the card at 4.25" and at 8.5" to create a tri-fold card. The smaller flap on the right will form the pocket for giftcards or other "thank you" goodies.

Core a 2.5" x 3.5" piece of Kraft Cardstock diagonally. Line up two opposite corners along one score line on the Scor-Buddy. Score the line from corner to corner. Work out from the center line, scoring every 1/4" to the right and left until the sheet is covered with score lines.

Rotate, lining up the other set of opposite corners and repeat. This will create a diagonal set of lines intersecting the first set, or a waffle pattern for the ice cream cone.

Ink the scored ridges on the cardstock with the Chestnut Roan section from the ColorBox Fluid Chalk Petal Point Options Pad in Autumn Pastels.

Cut a cone shape from the cardstock and ink the edges again with the Chestnut Roan section from the ColorBox Fluid Chalk Petal Point Options Pad in Autumn Pastels.

Adhere patterned paper trimmed to 4" x 5.25" to the front and two 4.25" x 5.5" inner sections of the card. Add a 2.5" x 5.25" strip of patterned paper to the flap and glue the top and bottom down to form a pocket. Add ribbon as desired.

Diecut a scoop of ice cream from cardstock and add to the front of the card with a sentiment.  To make the ice cream shimmer, add Smooch Accent Ink to shade the diecut, giving it a more realistic feel.

Add a little Smooch Accent Ink to the cone for shading and sparkle. Apply the Smooch to the outside edge of the diecut first, working it towards the center with a circular motion, blending it into the cardstock.

The scoop of ice cream looks cool and refreshing with a little Smooch!

Add a gift card to the pocket of the card and it is ready to give as a thank you gift and card, all rolled into one.

0 Batty in Blue

Halloween layouts don''t have to be spooky or even be black and orange!I created this page using some Halloween elements, like Clear Scraps Mini Bat Album and googly eyes, and non-Halloween items, like this school themed paper from Pink Paislee.

I used a BUNCH of different techniques on this layout:

  • Embossed Acrylic - I embossed two of the bat shaped pages from the Clear Scraps Mini Bat Album with a Sizzix Embossing Folder and a Sizzix Big Shot Machine.
  • Sanding - After embossing the bats, I sanded the back of each to add texture to the raised, embossed image. I also sanded the edges of the Pink Paislee Acrylic Card on the back and rubbed paint into the grooves to make the image on the front of the card stand out.
  • Paint for Distressing - I painted the Clear Scraps Mini Bat Album with white acrylic paint and then used a paper towel to remove the paint from the raised parts of the image.
  • Paint - Painted the Chipboard gears from the Clear Scraps Clear N Chip Carson's Park and sprinkled them with glitter while they were still wet.
  • Rub-Ons - I added scraps of partial rub-ons sheets to the edges of the front of the Clear Scraps Dazed Square.
  • Inking - I inked the back of the  Clear Scraps Dazed Square with Staz-On ink in black to help make the rub-ons stand out and also define the edges of the acrylic square.
  • Stitching - I punched holes on the cut edges of the  Clear Scraps Dazed Square and used a hole punch to punch 5 holes in each piece of acrylic. I then laced/sewed the pieces together with twine.
There is really so much you can do with acrylic!! Emboss, paint, ink...the sky is the limit.

Supplies:
Glitter - Doodlebug
Paper, Clear Playing Card - Pink Paislee
Alpha Stickers - My Little Shoebox
Ink - Clearsnap, Staz-On
Paint - Ranger, Delta, Making Memories
Pen - Uni-Ball
Googly Eyes - Darice

If so, All About Halloween is for you! In this jam-packed course, taught by three amazing teachers: Kim Parkinson, Bethany Kartchner and Jennifer Priest, we'll be creating everything you need this spooky season from cute Halloween cards and goody bags to whimsical home decor to fun layouts and mini-albums to document all the precious memories. If you need inspiration this season, look no further. You are in for an entire bag of treats! No tricks!

· Week One with Kim Parkinson: Fabulous gift bags and cards using alcohol inks, distress inks and embossed metal. We'll explore ways to highlight certain areas of a design using watercolor effects with UTEE.

· Week Two with Kim Parkinson: Create a spooky coffin mini book made from cardstock. It even has an easy stitched pamphlet inside! We'll discuss embossing on metal or pliable aluminum. If you do not have access to embossable metals, no worries! Kim will give suggestions on using other household items for embossing.

· Week Three with Bethany Kartchner: BOO! This week is all about spooky ghosts. You'll meet Zeke, Spooky and a whole gaggle of adorable ghosties. We'll create not just one, but three different home decor projects based on these transparent haunts using Creative Paperclay and supplies found at your local craft store.

· Week Four with Bethany Kartchner: Silly spiders are all the rage as we further explore sculpting with Creative Paperclay. Four unique projects involving our eight-legged friends are on the docket including a Halloween wreath with a spider named Jimmy, napkin holders and Miss Samantha, the most fashionable spider in the whole arachnid kingdom. Eeek!

· Week Five with Jennifer Priest: We'll explore innovative ways to create spooky effects on three unique scrapbook pages using googly eyes, paint, ink, and more. We'll also experiment with color and quirky embellishments for a mix of "scary" pages and whimsical, child-focused pages.

· Week Six with Jennifer Priest: Memory preserving continues as Jennifer shares several versions of mini-albums to lock up all of your spooky memories using leftover decorations to create up-cycled embellishments. To top it all off, we'll create custom "spooky" woven ribbon binding using the Bind It All machine.

If you are a new scrapbooker or crafter, don't worry! We will be covering all the basics along with more advanced techniques in video demonstrations, narrated presentations, downloadable pdf tutorials, forums and a student gallery. Today I am sharing a project using the Scor-Buddy and Scor-Tape from Scor-Pal as well as
lots of fab Clearsnap goodies.

We recently went to the Ringling Bros Barnum & Bailey Circus with our kids and the nephews. We had a blast!!

I wanted this layout to look like a circus tent, fun and festive with banners, flowers, and more. I used the Scor-Buddy for make the pleats in the "tent".

First I started scoring an 7x12 piece of Cardstock every 1/2" or so, straight on.

Then I twisted the paper slightly off-line and scored again, and then tilted slightly more,
and scored again to create a  set of flared diagonally lines.

I then accordion folded the cardstock along the score lines and adhered it to the layout using Scor-Tape.

Next I sprayed some canvas flowers that I diecut with Smooch Spritz in Gold Glow and Vanilla Shimmer.

This gave them a metallic look, to compliment the shine of the diecut Grant Studios glitter alphas and label I used.

I applied a Funky Forest Molding Mat to the Memory Essential Jumbo Get Rollin Tool to make a custom wheel style stamp. Even though this Molding Mat has trees on it, it is perfect for making pennants for a banner! First, I peeled the protective cover from the Get Rollin Tool:

Roll the Get Rollin Tool along the back of the Molding Mat to apply it to the wheel.

I inked up with stamp with Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink in Amber Clay and rolled it on some coordinating Grant Studios paper.

I then trimmed the "pennants" from the paper, reserving the pennant shaped scraps to use for my banner as well.

I added photos, a handcut top to the big top tent, and the string for the banner to finish
off the look.
