1 New Challenge Up At CAnDY ShOPpE DeSIgNs: Fashionably Geek
Fashionably Geek ChallengeDue Date: Midnight (est) Monday, October 10, 2009
Oh! You didn't know that "Geek" was the new "Black?" Well, now you know! Let's rock this Challenge in the name of all geeks!
Rules are simple.....
-The base of your Paper Creation should be BLACK. It doesn't have to be all black or even plain black, but black. With that said, you don't have to create a layout. It can be any kind of Paper Creation (a layout, a card, a mini album, an altered item, etc.).
-The title/journaling on your Paper Creation (should you choose to add one) should be WHITE.
-You must include a PLAID, CHECKERED or ARGYLE PRINT and
-You must include an APPLE. It doesn't matter how many.
Already created a Paper Creation that fits into these rules? Awesome! Go ahead and enter it into the Challenge! They don't need to be new.-The base of your Paper Creation should be BLACK. 0 Working on the big 2-0
No, I am not turning 20....I am working on my Twenty Pages sample!! That car accident really slowed me down so I am canceling a couple of classes, as much as I hate doing that, so I can catch up on some things. No 1 priority is to be ready for World Card Making Day this weekend. Luckily I am 99% prepped already. No 2 priority is working on my Twenty Pages Sample. Here's a hint: Bring an apron. And prepare to be glittered! Okay, that's all I am sharing!! Preview samples should hit the stores this weekend, with a few pages for your viewing pleasure until the rest of my product for samples arrives. Until then, here is a little sneak at something else I have been working on that I can't quite share yet:

Happy Scrapping!

1 Scrap Pink was a Success!
This past Saturday we hosted our very first Scrap Pink event - it was my first time doing a crop from start to finish by myself. We did it as the Divine Desert Divas but in the past, all the crops I have been a part of happened at a store or through SBR where I was not the point person. Organizing a charity crop ain't no joke!
It was rough at times, alot of work, and the last week I was in a car accident so my neck was killing me. It seemed the sky was falling for all of our volunteers...moving this weekend...throwing out backs...sick family members...getting sick themselves...trying to gather donations with no car! In the end, our event was

We raised $2232 for the cause!
Everyone kept coming up to us during the event saying what a great time they were having, how yummy the food and snacks were, how they loved the table decor, how we outdid ourselves! It was so great to see our hard work, hours of meetings and preparation, and sleepless nights pay off. We're already planning next year's event!
Here are some highlights from the event:
Diva Jennifer Priest and Princess Crops Alot Pat Wilson

We've got "Fairy Divas In Training"! That's Shelbie and Katie to be exact ;)

Ashley got her groove on to try to win an extra goodie bag!

Lots of cropping was going on!!

Hand massages by Arbonne!!

Yvonne Ojeda, Education Director for Komen for the Cure Inland Empire came at tea time to educate us about Komen, their mission, and about breast health. Our volunteer, Jennifer Ward, is seen here chatting and getting support from Yvonne - Jennifer has a family member who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Not only did we fundraise, we spread hope and support!
This event was made possible by donations from:

Queen of Sweets: Lara Askin
Lara came to the event all the way from Sacramento and made a homemade sweet!
Thanks again to everyone who made this event a success. We were amazed, humbled, and delighted at the support of the attendees, our tireless volunteers, and the Divine Desert Divas, without whom this would not have been possible. And thank you to Scrapbook Royalty for helping us with the administrative side!!

2 Busy Bee, That's Me!
Life never ceases to amaze me. It gets so bad, so unlikely, so "am I on Candid Camera?" that you just gotta throw your arms up and scrap! I mean, laugh! LOL This will make more sense at the end of my post in case you're wondering what I mean exactly.
Yesterday we went to the Route 66 Rendezvous - It was fun, but ridiculously HOT! Like 105 HOT! I got some Christmas/Birthday Shopping done and we had fun ;) The kids loved the firehose they set up in the middle of the street. They also got to go on a vintage bus and pretend to ride it. A nice hour in the heat and now we are really really tan!

This Saturday I went out to Laurie Rush's famous crop for some fun and to get some scrapping done. I taught a little make n take, four cards using Prima goodies. We had a blast coloring pearls and gems with Copics. Jessica Studer was the winner of my Prima prize pack:

I also got some layouts done, which was pretty nice! Only one was for a DT assignment and it was pretty nice to just focus on playing ;)

The day however did not start off so great. Joanne Walker and I met at the crop early to go for a little side trip shopping. On the way back, I got rear ended by a TEENAGER! Hello, this makes the case for why teens should not be driving and definitely NOT on the freeway. They just are not experienced enough -- we were in slowing traffic and the girl was just barrelling down the road, who knows how fast and slammed into me. If it were not for my spare tire it would have been much worse I bet. Could you just imagine my scrapping stuff strewn all over the freeway?! Ah!

So besides Xaver's car being in the transmission shop NOW my brand new car needs to go in the shop for repairs and what the heck am I supposed to do with Katie needing to be driven to school every day, classes, Katie's Girl Scout meetings, not to mention if I have to go to the grocery store. And then Matthew has a 101 temperature today! So I look up above and say, "Can it get any worse?" and then God makes sure that Xaver's mileage reimbursement goes through this week. Just goes to show you, God is great and the only way to muddle through is to laugh and have faith. Though, if you talk to Joanne, she will tell you I wasn't so calm when the accident happened ;) It just took a couple of days and a sore neck and back to calm me down--I can't get upset cuz it hurts too much!
Well, off to take Matt to the Dr and get more Scrap Pink donations. It's this Saturday and we still have a handful of spots left--sign up now!! It's gonna be a blast!

1 Totally into this!
Did you see the Smarty school papers designed by Helen Dardik last year for Creative Imaginations? They were super cute and I made quite a few layouts with them, like these:

Did you know Helen has an Etsy Shop?! I just bought this print to put by my computer desk:

She also has water bottles for sale at Blue Q, features in Family Fun Magazine...I just love her fun retro prints! Check out more of her work on her website: http://www.oneluckyhelen.com/. I hope you'll be inspired like I was!

1 I'm Saying It With Letters!!
I made the new Say It With Letters Design Team!! Woohoo! I cannot wait to create fun decorative accents for my naked house walls (hehe) using their great MDF shapes. My first project is to use their awareness ribbon shape for a special Scrap Pink surprise..I'll post sneaks in a few days!

I also recently bought these dresses shapes--sooo stinking cute!! I have so many ideas floating in my head about how to decorate these-- here's an idea from the Say It With Letters site:

Head on over to the Say It With Letters blog to see who else is on the team. Check out their fabulous products here: Say It With Letters

8 Invincible

I created this layout for the One Little Word Challenge this month, using a sketch Becky Fleck designed just for them:
I so want her new sketch book--love sketches!
The dinosaur is one of the first things I did with my Copics. Fellow Copic lover Dawn Tumelty and I sat up at Desert Scrappers in May stamping and coloring until the wee hours of the morning--it was super fun! I stamped this little dinosaur and some other items, cut them out, and kept them in my embellie tote for just the perfect page. I made the dinosaur steal the soda...so Matt!
I also altered the photo in Photoshop--I am trying to do this more, especially on pic with wayyyyyyyyy too many colors. I was able to tone down all the stuff in my pantry (the background) to focus on Matt, and change the color of his shirt to match my papers -- it was a BRIGHT Blue Terminator T-shirt.

This weekend I'll be doing a card make n take at Laurie Rush's Crop In Orange -- it's my Prima Cards for the Troops make n take. We'll use Copics, embossing, stamps, and lots of fun Prima goodies. I am hoping to squeeze in a little cropping too ;) Hope to see you there!
Happy Creating!
